It has been a beautiful fall, clear across the nation I think. At least the golf course looked that way in Pa., and I am sure they are beautiful in Nashville, and San Diego, and maybe even in Phoenix. I just keep wanting to take pictures of each beautiful group of trees I see, and then I think, what would I do with them, so I don't. My sumac is beautifully red however. Yours look very inviting and I am sure Katie and Bradley will love jumping in them. Have fun raking them up!
Those really are pretty. How fun to have them right in your own back yard!
We have 2 cottonwood trees in our yard, and theoretically, they should turn a lovely shade of yellow. Since we really don't have fall here, they just turn brown, fall off, and then start budding out again. It's just a big mess on the ground that irritates the crap out of me.
We have 2 desert trees that stay pretty and green all year. The leaves don't fall off, and one of them should be big enough this year to have pretty purple flowers in the spring.
Nate and I were just mentioning this morning that we wished one of our tree's would turn that pretty red or orange. All three out in our backyard have turned a light yellow/orange so having a red would really add some contrast.
It is such a treat to be able to look right out your window and have such a beautiful scene.

I have a yellow tree with a bright red bush under it right outside my den window. It does make a lovely combination.

You used the word "alas." Bless you my dear mother. What a grand word to use!
